Sally Mann

This summer in preparing a portfolio I found that each enlarger cubby was named after a famous photographer. The cubby I’ve been working at for 2 + years now is named after Sally Mann. I was first introduced to Mann’s work in my large format photography class in the spring of 2010. Her work involving her intimate life shared with others, inspired me. In viewer  her work recently, I found her more recent work such as Body Farm  to relate with my Leave Me body of work in relation to using mortality as a landscape.

“I want people to have to accept the existence of beauty where they would never expect to find it,” says Mann. “In death.”

As do I in my own work of these these non universal and just out of reach things (death, beauty, freedom, religion).
